In the PET blow moulding industry, electricity is your primary running cost, but compressed air is the absolute lifeblood of the operation. You cannot blow a bottle without it. However, standard factory air compressors operate at 7 to 10 Bar—enough to run pneumatic cylinders, but entirely insufficient for PET blowing. Forcing a heated PET preform into the sharp corners and structural ribs of an aluminum mold requires extreme, unyielding pneumatic force. This is where the BMR High-Pressure Air Compressor (30 to 40 Bar) becomes the most critical piece of infrastructure in your entire bottling plant.
BMR Machinery supplies industrial-grade, multi-stage reciprocating (piston) high-pressure compressors designed specifically for the brutal 24/7 demands of the PET blowing industry. These are not standard compressors; they are massive, heavy-duty iron giants engineered with intercoolers, high-grade piston rings, and advanced variable frequency drives (VFD) to deliver continuous 40-Bar pressure while minimizing the catastrophic energy costs typically associated with high-pressure air generation.
Compressing atmospheric air to 40 times its normal pressure (40 Bar / 580 PSI) generates astronomical amounts of heat. If this heat is not managed, the compressor oil degrades instantly, the valves warp, and the compressor seizes, halting your entire factory.
BMR High-Pressure Compressors solve this through a highly efficient Multi-Stage compression process. Air is compressed in the first massive cylinder to 5 Bar, pushed through a heavily finned intercooler to strip away the heat, then pushed into a second cylinder and compressed to 15 Bar, cooled again, and finally pushed into the third cylinder where it is slammed to 40 Bar. This staged approach, combined with massive cast-iron flywheels for active air cooling, ensures the compressor runs cool, maintaining volumetric efficiency even during peak summer months.
A high-pressure compressor must be over-engineered to survive. The specifications of our standard PET blowing compressors reflect absolute industrial durability.

BMR does not compromise on the heart of the factory. Our compressors are loaded with features designed to prevent failure and optimize electricity usage.
Blowing compressed air into a bottle meant for human consumption requires absolute purity. High-pressure compression squeezes out massive amounts of water (humidity) and creates oil vapor. BMR supplies a complete air treatment ecosystem:
Sizing a compressor is a critical mathematical calculation. If the compressor is too small, the blowing pressure will drop from 40 Bar to 25 Bar. When this happens, the bottles will have unformed bases, weak corners, and will be immediately rejected.
The required Free Air Delivery (FAD) is calculated based on:
Our engineering team analyzes your exact bottle drawing and machine speed to recommend the perfect FAD (e.g., 2.0 m³/min or 3.6 m³/min) ensuring you always have a 20% safety buffer of air supply without over-investing in unnecessary motor horsepower.
A high-pressure compressor requires strict, disciplined maintenance. Oil is its lifeblood. BMR provides rigorous training on daily oil checks and condensate draining. The compressor features hour-meters on the PLC, alerting operators exactly when to change the synthetic oil, replace the air intake filters, and inspect the valve plates. Because we use standard industrial footprints, consumable spares like piston rings and belts are readily available across our pan-India network, ensuring you are never held hostage by proprietary parts.
1. Why can't I just use a standard 10-Bar screw compressor to blow bottles? A 10-Bar compressor does not have enough force to push the stiff, semi-solid PET plastic into the intricate details, base structures, and sharp corners of a bottle mold. Attempting to blow with 10 Bar will result in a deformed, useless blob of plastic. You need a minimum of 25 to 40 Bar for PET blowing.
2. What is a "Booster" compressor, and is it better than a standard high-pressure compressor? A booster compressor takes 10-Bar air from a standard screw compressor and "boosts" it to 40 Bar. It is a good solution if you already have a massive 10-Bar air network in your factory. However, for a dedicated blowing line, a standalone 3-stage 40-Bar compressor is usually more energy-efficient and has a smaller total footprint.
3. Do I really need the High-Pressure Air Dryer? Absolutely. If you skip the dryer, the humidity in the compressed air will turn into liquid water inside the 40-bar tank. When this wet air hits your chilled bottle mold, it will spray water inside the bottle, causing massive contamination and ruining the transparency of the PET.
4. How often do the heavy-duty piston rings need to be replaced? With proper maintenance, premium synthetic oil, and assuming the compressor is sized correctly (so it isn't running 100% of the time without resting), high-quality piston rings typically last between 4,000 to 6,000 running hours before needing replacement.
5. What kind of oil should be used in a 40-Bar compressor? You must strictly use High-Temperature Synthetic Reciprocating Compressor Oil. Standard motor oil or cheap hydraulic oil will instantly burn under the massive heat of 40-bar compression, turning into carbon sludge that will destroy the valves and seize the pistons.
6. Is it safe to store air at 40 Bar in the factory? Yes, provided you use certified equipment. The air receiver tank must be a certified high-pressure vessel with a minimum wall thickness of 12mm to 16mm steel, equipped with dual mechanical safety relief valves that will automatically pop open and vent the air if pressure exceeds 42 Bar.
7. Why does the compressor automatically drain water from the bottom of the cylinders? During multi-stage compression, as the air cools in the intercoolers between the cylinders, the humidity in the air condenses into liquid water. The auto-drain valves purge this water every few minutes. If it wasn't purged, the water would enter the next cylinder and destroy the piston (hydro-lock).
8. Can one large compressor run two blowing machines? Yes. For example, if you have two blowing machines that each require 1.5 m³/min of air, you can install a single large compressor that produces 3.6 m³/min connected to a massive 2000L receiver tank. This is often more cost-effective than buying two smaller compressors.
9. How loud is a 40-Bar piston compressor? They are industrial machines and generate significant mechanical noise (usually between 85 to 95 dB). It is highly recommended to install the compressor in a dedicated, ventilated utility room outside the main production hall to maintain a comfortable working environment for the factory staff.
10. What is the benefit of installing a VFD panel? Without a VFD, the motor runs at 100% speed, drawing massive amps, and simply stops when the tank is full. A VFD eliminates the huge electrical spike caused by starting a 50HP motor and intelligently slows the motor down when air demand is low, saving you thousands in electricity bills and reducing mechanical wear.
