The beverage industry is undergoing a massive shift towards healthier options—fruit juices, iced teas, isotonic sports drinks, and energy beverages. Unlike standard carbonated drinks or mineral water, these beverages are highly susceptible to bacterial contamination. To ensure long shelf life without adding chemical preservatives, these liquids must be pasteurized and filled into bottles at extremely high temperatures (typically between 85°C and 92°C). Standard PET bottles will instantly melt, shrink, and warp when exposed to such heat.
This is where the BMR Hot Fill PET Blow Moulding Machine becomes indispensable. Engineered with advanced thermal crystallization technology, this machine manufactures specialized heat-resistant PET bottles capable of withstanding boiling temperatures during the hot filling process. By utilizing highly specialized oil-heated molds and a dual-blow step, we physically alter the molecular structure of the PET, giving it glass-like heat resistance while maintaining the lightweight flexibility of plastic.
Standard PET is an amorphous plastic; it softens at around 70°C. To make it withstand 90°C, the PET must be crystallized. This is a complex thermodynamic process. In a BMR Hot Fill Machine, the preforms are heated to a much higher temperature in the oven than standard water bottles.
When the hot preform enters the mold, the mold itself is not cold—it is heated to over 140°C using specialized industrial thermal oil heaters. As the high-pressure air blasts the plastic against the scorching hot mold, the PET molecules instantly align and crystallize, forming a rigid, heat-resistant lattice. After a brief "soak" time in the hot mold, a specialized internal cooling rod injects chilled air into the center of the bottle to cool it just enough to be ejected without shrinking. This delicate balance of extreme heat and rapid internal cooling is what separates BMR's technology from conventional machines.
Producing hot-fill bottles requires industrial-grade thermal stability. The specifications below outline the heavy-duty capabilities of our hot fill series.
| Parameter | Specification | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Production Speed | 2,000 to 8,000 BPH | Dependent on crystallization soak time |
| Heat Resistance | Up to 92°C (197°F) | Guaranteed zero shrinkage during hot filling |
| Preform Requirement | High-IV (Intrinsic Viscosity) PET | Requires specialized hot-fill grade preforms |
| Mold Heating Medium | Circulating Thermal Oil | Maintains mold temperature up to 145°C |
| Internal Cooling | High-Pressure Air Flush | Instantly cools the bottle interior before ejection |
| Clamping Force | 200 kN to 500 kN | High tonnage required to hold hot molds perfectly shut |
| Control System | Siemens / Allen Bradley PLC | Micro-second precision for the crystallization phase |
| Neck Cooling System | Active Chilled Water | Prevents the threaded neck from crystallizing |
| Air Consumption | High (Includes Flushing) | Air recovery system recovers up to 30% |
To guarantee that your juice and sports drink bottles do not deform on the filling line, BMR Machinery integrates several proprietary features:
This machine is the backbone of the non-carbonated, preservative-free beverage industry:
The demand for healthy, preservative-free beverages is exploding. However, hot-fill PET bottles are incredibly expensive to purchase from third-party suppliers because the blowing process is highly specialized and energy-intensive.
By investing in a BMR Hot Fill Machine, a juice manufacturer takes control of their largest variable cost. You can design custom "vacuum panel" bottles (bottles with structural ribs that absorb the vacuum created when the hot liquid cools and contracts). An average juice plant producing 30,000 bottles a day will typically recover the cost of the BMR machine in under 16 months through packaging savings alone.
Operating a thermal oil system at 140°C requires diligence. BMR Machinery provides rigorous safety and operational training for your engineers. The PLC features predictive maintenance alerts for thermal oil degradation, IR lamp life, and pneumatic wear. Our pan-India network guarantees that highly trained thermal specialists are available for any emergency interventions, ensuring your juice lines never stop during peak summer seasons.
1. What temperature can the bottles blown on this machine withstand? When using the correct High-IV preforms and optimal machine settings, the bottles can comfortably withstand filling temperatures of 85°C to 92°C without any shrinkage, deformation, or volume loss.
2. Can I use standard water bottle preforms on this machine? No. Hot-fill bottles require specialized preforms made from High-IV (Intrinsic Viscosity) PET resin. Standard preforms do not have the molecular structure required to crystallize properly and will fail during the hot filling process.
3. Why do hot-fill bottles have strange rib designs on the sides? When a bottle is filled at 90°C and then cools to room temperature, the liquid inside shrinks, creating a massive internal vacuum. The structural ribs (vacuum panels) on the sides of hot-fill bottles are designed to flex inward slightly to absorb this vacuum, preventing the entire bottle from collapsing or looking crumpled.
4. Can this machine also blow standard cold-fill water bottles? Yes, it is highly versatile. By turning off the thermal oil heater and connecting a standard chilled water line to the molds, this machine can easily produce standard, non-heat-resistant mineral water bottles at very high speeds.
5. How long does it take for the mold to heat up to 140°C? From a cold start, the external thermal oil heating unit typically takes about 30 to 45 minutes to circulate the oil and stabilize the heavy aluminum molds at exactly 140°C to 145°C.
6. Is there a risk of the hot thermal oil leaking? We use industrial-grade, high-temperature braided steel hoses and high-pressure rotary joints specifically designed for thermal oil applications. The system includes automatic pressure-drop sensors that instantly shut off the pumps if a leak is detected, ensuring absolute operator safety.
7. Does hot filling affect the transparency of the bottle? Properly crystallized hot-fill bottles will maintain excellent transparency. If the heating parameters are incorrect, the bottle may develop a slight white haze (over-crystallization). Our PLC allows for micro-adjustments to ensure the perfect balance between heat resistance and crystal-clear transparency.
8. What is the power consumption difference compared to standard blowing? Hot fill machines consume more power due to the external thermal oil heater and the extended IR heating required for the preforms. Expect a 20% to 30% increase in power consumption compared to a standard cold-water blowing machine of the same capacity.
9. Can we blow bottles for hot ketchup or sauces? Yes. The machine is perfectly capable of blowing wide-mouth hot-fill bottles and jars used for ketchups, chili sauces, and purees that require sterilization through hot filling.
10. Do you supply the thermal oil heater with the machine? Yes, the machine is supplied as a complete, turnkey package. This includes the main blow moulder, the external high-capacity thermal oil heating unit, the mold temperature controllers, and the specialized air-flushing stretch rods.
